Inventory

Know what is connected before you try to protect it.

List routers, switches, access points, servers, laptops, and shared business devices.List business-critical cloud services such as email, payroll, banking, storage, and CRM.Assign an owner for each important system or service.

Updates

Close common doors before attackers find them.

Confirm operating system, applications, and browser updates are current.Check firmware updates for routers, firewalls, access points, and VPN devices.Remove unsupported software or devices that no longer receive security updates.

Access

Make sure only the right people still have access.

Remove accounts for former employees, vendors, and temporary users.Require MFA for email, remote access, banking, payroll, and administrator accounts.Review administrator permissions and reduce them where possible.

Wi-Fi and Backups

Separate everyday access from critical business recovery.

Use WPA2 or WPA3 and a strong Wi-Fi password.Keep guest Wi-Fi separate from business systems.Confirm backups completed successfully and restore one sample file each month.
